Temiz Polar RR Pyrrolidone - generic organic adsorber

In this example, the generic adsorption power of TEMIZ Polar RR Pyrrolidone is exemplified with 3 common chemicals:

Bisphenol A (top), Propranolol (right), Estrone (bottom left) (see structures)

Removal of a variety of organic molecules from water is shown. In certain chemical or enzymatic reactions, the solvent is water and albeit the good sustainability and economy of using water, the retrieval of formed comounds may be cumbersome eg by use of liquid liquid extracations, dialysis etc. Evaporation of water is energy-intensive and economically not viable for large amounts.

A new way to solve this is to use TEMIZ Polar RR Pyrrolidone to bind and retain organic compounds dissolved in aqueous solutions.

Example: Solutions: 1) Bisphenol A, 2) Propranolol, 3) Estrone: 100 mg/L of each chemical. 20 ml of chemical solution passed through SPE column with 2 ml Temiz Polar RR Pyrrolidone resin within ca 10 minutes.

Results: Temiz Polar RR Pyrrolidone almost quantitatively binds the organics in water:

Table: reduction values of the compounds

Compound

Reduced by

1. Bisphenol A

Min 95 %

2. Propranolol

Ca 95 %

3. Estrone

Min 95 %

It can be envisioned that a multitude of other organic molecules with different polarity, charge or molecular weight will also be bound by Temiz Polar RR Pyrrolidone.

Elution of compounds: Bound organics can be eluted from the resin with a variety of organic solvents, such as simple alcohols or acetone. The eluted compounds could be retrieved in a more concentrated form for further processing, use or analysis or evaporation to yield dry product.

The user may develop a regeneration protocol, as the resin is in principle able to regain its capacity to again effectively bind organics in a subsequent resin treatment.
