TEMIZ™ DVB-Styrene MP
Material overview
TEMIZ DVB-Styrene MP Resins are highly hydrophobic reversed phase polymeric resins based on aromatic DVB-Styrene.
Resin matrix | DVB/PS |
Particle size | 300 – 1000 µm |
Pore size | MP – mesoporous |
Functionality | Benzyl |
The resins are characterized by its good rigidity and high capacity and reversed phase selectivity.
Resin library and variants in-house
Redstone has currently 20 DVB-Styrene adsorbent variants in-house that are similar in specifications, but differ in resin architecture which could give different selectivities and thus different separation results depending on the application.
It is well known that resins with similar or essentially identical specifications may behave very differently for a given application. Hence, it is wise to test a library of candidate resins to evaluate for a given separation challenge to increase the chance for success.
Redstone RP resins are all strongly hydrophobic, with predominantly small pore sizes optimized for small molecule binding.
The variations are visible in the different densities, that reflect different poros properties and different resin architectures.

Applications
Reversed phase resins based on polystyrene cross-linked with divinylbenzene have a vast number of uses in very diverse industries.
An in-house example using DVB-Sty MP-002 as the resin and gallic acid as a model compound is shown below.
The strongly hydrophobic character is effective in binding to a large variety of organic molecules in aqueous solutions. The relatively small pore size is optimal for small molecules and the resin will exclude large molecules like proteins or other large molecular complexes.
Typical uses for reversed phase hydrophobic resins are for binding to organic species in aqueous solutions including pharmaceutical mixtures or biological extracts or plant-based extracts.
A model example is shown on the scavenging, ie binding of a model phenolic compund, gallic acid. Subsequently, its quantitative release is shown using simple organic solvents and evaporation.
