Plant protein clean-up & analysis of plant toxins

We conducted several successful projects on Vinnova funded projects for the removal of polyphenols and glyco-alkaloid toxins from industrial potato fruit juice streams. Also several master thesis students we co-supervised

Redstone Separations AB together with SLU, Department of Plant Breeding was awared two separate Vinnova funding projects, towards the development of novel selective resins for targeted removal of glyco-alkaloids and bitter polyphenolics:

ProUpSide: removing antinutritionals for protein upgrading in agroindustrial side streams: ProUpside 1

ProUpSide – optimization and scale-up of agro-industrial side stream purification: ProUpSide 2

With co-supervision together with Dr. Bill Newson, SLU, 3 master thesis projects were successfully conducted:

  1. Title: Evaluation of novel resins for purification of non aqueous food materials. Pls click here to read more.
  2. Title: From Landscape to Lab: Utilization of Green Leafy Agricultural Biomass as a Source of Plant Proteins and Polyphenols Refining Proteins and Extracting Polyphenols with the Help of Polymeric Resins: refining Proteins and Extracting Polyphenols with the Help of Polymeric Resins. Pls click here to read more.
  3. A preliminary study of the potential use of ion exchange resins to remove phenolics and glycoalkaloids from potato Protein Concentrate. Pls click here to read more.
